INTRODUCTION:
This 4-Day Berber Culture Trip from Marrakech to Fez via the Merzouga Desert will allow you to experience some of the culture of the Berber Nomads and the Moroccan culture at large. Experience wonderful sceneries, historical Kasbahs, visit the Dades Gorge and Toudra Gorge and a camel trek and overnight stay in the Sahara Desert.

What to Expect:
DAY 1: Fez –> Azrou –> Midelt –> Ziz Valley –> Merzouga
Pick-up at Hotel or Riad in Fez and start traveling to Merzouga via Ifran and Midelt. Experience views of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas Mountains. At Azrou, a Berber village in the middle of the cedar forest, the largest in Morocco, see Barbarian apes. Drive through the Tizi n’ Talghamt Pass to Midelt and along the Ziz Gorges carved from volcanic rock. Continue along the Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way. Drive through Berber villages to Erfoud, and then Rissani, before arriving in Merzouga. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad Half-board (HB).
DAY 2: Merzouga Desert and Camel trek
Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Visit the Gnawa (Gnaoua) people, originally slaves brought from West Africa and experience their music and lifestyle. See the lake of Merzouga with its bird populations. Visit the old city of Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling royal family in Morocco. Walk through the souks of Rissani with its spices, vegetables and cloths. Drive back to the village of Merzouga. Guided camel ride to explore the sand sea of Merzouga. Overnight at desert camp where you will have your dinner.
DAY 3: Merzouga –> Todra Gorges –> Dades Valley
Early in the morning, wake up to watch the most beautiful sunrise in the Sahara Desert, enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan breakfast at your desert camp. Camel trek back to the village of Merzouga over the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Enjoy an optional 1-hour hike within the valley and meet the locals and learn about the culture and geography. Have lunch in the heart of the Gorge. Continue through Dades Valley and enjoy seeing majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad Half-board (HB).
DAY 4: Dades Valley –> Ait Ben Haddou–> Marrakech
Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat M’Gouna and Ouarzazate, the door of the desert. Enjoy numerous opportunities to take amazing photographs during the drive. Stop in Kalaat M’Gouna, “the City of Roses”, to purchase the rosewater. Continue to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO world heritage site. Continue through Tizi N’Tichka Pass over the High Atlas Mountains before arriving at your Riad in Marrakech. Continue to Marrakech where the tour ends at your accommodation.
