Tangier –> Merzouga –> Marrakech

INTRODUCTION:

This 4-Day Berber Culture Trip from Tangier to the Merzouga Desert and Marrakech via Fez and Chefchaouen, will allow you to experience some of the culture of the Berber Nomads and the Moroccan culture at large. Experience wonderful sceneries, historical Kasbahs, visit the Dades Gorge and Toudra Gorge and a camel trek and overnight stay in the Sahara Desert.

What to Expect:

DAY 1: Tangier –> Chefchaouen –> Fez

Pick up at your Hotel or Riad in Tangier, the “Pearl of Northern Morocco”. Drive to Fez via Chefchaouen, known as “The Blue City of Morocco”, which is also the main city in the Rif Mountain Region. Have lunch in the Spanish style square of Chefchaouen, shop for arts and craft, and talk a stroll in the medina. Continue to Fez via Ouazzane, known as a spiritual capital, because it was home for many of the pillars of Sufism. Guided tour of partially excavated Berber and Roman City of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage. Drive to Meknes, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. Visit the Bab Mansour Gate, one of the most amazing gates in the world; the imperial Granaries and Stables the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad.

DAY 2: Fez –> Azrou –> Midelt –> Ziz Valley –> Merzouga

Breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Stop in Ifrane, referred to as “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Enjoy stunning views of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountain while driving. After enjoying some Moroccan mint tea, take a camel ride to a Berber camp in the middle of the Erg Chebbi dunes, the highest sand dunes in North Africa. After dinner, gather around the fire and enjoy the sound of traditional Berber drums under the stars.

DAY 3: Merzouga –> Todra Gorges –> Dades Valley

Early in the morning, wake up to watch the most beautiful sunrise in the Sahara Desert, enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan breakfast at your desert camp. Camel trek back to the village of Merzouga over the spectacular Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Enjoy an optional 1-hour hike within the valley and meet the locals and learn about the culture and geography. Have lunch in the heart of the Gorge. Continue through Dades Valley and enjoy seeing majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation at your Hotel or Riad Half-board (HB).

DAY 4: Dades Gorge –> Ait Ben Haddou–> Marrakech

Have breakfast at your Hotel or Riad. Drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat M’Gouna and Ouarzazate, the door of the desert. Enjoy numerous opportunities to take amazing photographs during the drive. Stop in Kalaat M’Gouna, “the City of Roses”, to purchase the rosewater. Continue to Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO world heritage site. Continue through Tizi N’Tichka Pass over the High Atlas Mountains before arriving at your Riad in Marrakech. Continue to Marrakech where the tour ends at your accommodation.
